February 2018

I have a soft spot in my heart for this man because he has had a PROFOUND impact on our family.

It was his message over the airwaves in 1953 When Billy Graham was doing a crusade in Detroit that first brought my mom to Christ. She tells me even today at 96 years old that she fell to her knees in tears that day and asked Jesus to save her.

Screen-Shot-2014-03-13-at-10.19.31-AMMy dad followed her conversion and is life was totally changed, My mom and dad then brought us boys to a living and vibrant knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Then when I was 17 years old Billy Graham had a huge impact on me — so much so that after hearing him on the radio in about 1969 I slipped out the back door of our country home and with my long hair and bell bottom jeans walked down the dirt road with tears in my eyes.

Screen-Shot-2015-04-26-at-9.57.18-AMIt was a — if not THE, defining moment in my life. I have great respect and admiration for this good Baptist preacher and will some day in heaven look him straight in the eyes and thank him for reaching a rebellious 17 year old kid for Christ.

In the family picture, I am the top row left with the plaid jacket :-)

Below is a video of Billy Graham, now old and weak, giving a talk to the scientists in Silicon Valley. He may be fragile with age but his words are powerful, precise and ever so pertinent to our society today. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Why the USCCB (US Bishops) is Wrong about Islam

by Steve Ray on February 21, 2018

This in an excellent article in Catholic Workd Report about the wrong-headed ideas and disservice being propagated by the US Council of Bishops. Here is an excerpt:

“Deadly anti-Christian attacks have become commonplace in the Muslim world. Catholics need to know about them, and they also need to know the “why” of these attacks. There will be no end of the bloodshed unless we understand why it’s happening.

“On this point, the USCCB has been remiss. Numerous USCCB statements over the last 17 years have, in effect, absolved Islam of the crimes committed in the name of Islam. Instead of naming the religious ideology that motivates the terrorists, Church officials have been content to echo the mantra that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam.

F830CC2F-FAC5-4E65-BF95-469C21AC2913“Meanwhile, in the face of the Islam-inspired genocide of Christians, the USCCB has joined up with the problematic campaign against “Islamophobia.” This strikes me as a grotesque inversion of priorities. At a time when Christians need to be alerted to the dangers posed by the spread of Islam, why are bishops throwing themselves into the Muslim Brotherhood-manufactured battle against “Islamophobia”?

I put “Islamophobia” in quotes because a phobia is an irrational fear. But many people—including Christians living in Egypt—have good reason to be afraid. It does a disservice to them to say that their fears are baseless. Or to say that they have nothing to fear from authentic Islam.

Your own statement mentions various bloody terrorist attacks in Egypt, but the words “Islam” and “Islamic” do not appear in it. By contrast, an article in Coptic Solidarity states that “Islamic oppression” is the main driving force of persecution. Is the Coptic fear of Islamic oppression “Islamophobic”? Or is it a perfectly rational fear? …”

I had not known about Lizzy before today. I had a good number of people tell me that she is a famous Protestant blogger who had just announced her conversion to the Catholic Church.

I found out that she had mentioned my book Upon this Rock (and held it up as she talked on the video) and my talk on Peter, the Rock, Keys & Chair as a reason she was converting to the Catholic Church.

She is very good, by the way. Passionate, eloquent, compelling. Worth sharing with Protestant friends!

Enjoy!

The Rebel in Me LOVES Quotes Like This

February 19, 2018

“Enemy occupied territory — that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you might say landed in disguise, and is calling us to take part in a great campaign of sabotage.” C. S. Lewis For the larger context from Lewis’ Mere Christianity click HERE.

Infant Baptism

February 10, 2018

Infant Baptism is discussed and argued about quite a bit in some circles. I was raised Baptist and taught that Infant Baptism was a man-made tradition invented by the heretical Catholics who abandoned the Word of God to follow ill-advised tradition. (Picture: My granddaughter Elizabeth Arabella Rose Ray is baptized.) But not all Protestants reject Infant […]

Differences Between Catholic and Protestant Approaches to the Bible

February 8, 2018

“Bible Christians” (a misnomer, since Catholics are the real and original Bible Christians), based on their recently devised “Reformation” principle of sola Scriptura, study the Bible with the following premises: 1. There is no binding authority but the Bible alone; 2. There is no official binding interpretation or interpreter; each person ultimately is their own […]
