Our Visit with Cardinal Ratzinger

by Steve Ray on April 21, 2005

In 2000 we visited Rome and celebrated Mass with Cardinal Ratzinger in his chapel. Here he is talking with our family and holding my two books. Since I had provided an endorsement for his book (see below) I got his autograph on the book. When he saw my books from Ignatius he said, “Ah, we have much in common!“

We found him extremely gentle, kind, soft spoken and brilliant. He reminded us of a gentlemanly grandfather type.

What a great joy it was to meet and share books back then; what a honor it is to remember that day now. My son Jesse took these pictures.

In a few weeks we are on our way to Rome to celebrate our 11th Anniversary into the Catholic Church — and to celebrate Pentecost Mass with Pope Benedict XVI!
